Can You Wear Pajamas to School? Yes, We Can!

There was something different with junior students in SPH Kemang on Wednesday, 20 February 2013 because we were not wearing school uniform, but pajamas to school. Yes, pajama!! :-).
For celebrating the reading month, one of the activities was the Pajama Day.
One of the programmes that day was a shadow puppet show with a story about Rama and Shinta.

The Punakawan characters.

Jordan came to the front and danced.

Another activity we had was reading in the gym with some other grades. Grade 1 enjoyed reading with older students or even by themselves.

:-)

Hey, Batman and Superman came to our Pajama Day!

Play dough - getting ready for our field trip!

Yesterday in class, we talked about a new material! The kids learned about characteristics of play dough in preparation for working with clay on Friday's field trip.
Lots of fun and silliness! :)

Somehow we forgot to take a table group picture of the "red" table! We have individual shots, but can't give those away yet. . . we will be using them for a project tomorrow. Sorry about that!

Purple Popsicle!

Fine dining!

Eating their "burritos"

Goofy boys!

PS. The kids did great in the Readers Theater today! I will let you know by tomorrow what day we will have another performance next week for all the parents to attend :) Thanks for helping your kids with their costumes -- they were great!

Celebrate Reading Day

Who? The whole school!
What? Reading celebration day!
When? Wednesday the 20th

Information: On this day, all students get to wear pajamas at school! During the day, students will participate in different reading and literacy related activities. Every class will be performing a short readers theatre (I hope your child has already shown you their part and been practicing at home!). We are encouraging each student to wear a simple costume to represent their character in the nursery rhyme story “The Mystery of Humpty Dumpty’s Fall” (example: Queen of Hearts can wear a black and white dress with a red paper heart stuck to it). Don't purchase anything, just use things from home that will help reflect what character your child is.

Please have your child come to school in this “costume” and bring pajamas in their backpack to change into after the performance.

Note: The canteen will not be open on this day, so students need to pack a lunch from home.

Valentine's Day

Thank you so much for the beautiful bouquet of cards with sweet messages!
The students had a good time passing out cards to their friends, and snacking on some of the treats :)
Ask your child if they remember the greatest gift of love that we talked about in class yesterday?

Caterpillars to Moths

We've enjoyed watching our crawling friends go through the different phases of their lives and become beautiful moths. At first we didn't know if they would be butterflies or moths, but over the weekend several of them emerged from their cocoon form and showed us what they were!

Take a look at the pictures below (and a video!) that show each stage of their development!

Aren't the fascinating!?

And. . . we just found the other one that escaped from the cage! Look where the kids found him. . .
